Goodbye Zen

This week has been a bit rough for me. We had a cold snap last weekend and our oldest Nubian buck, Zen--who was the only original herd member we had left--decided that he was just too old to withstand winter this year. He couldn't put weight on his hind legs and though he was still in good spirits and alert we had to call the vet to come put him down. Don't get me wrong, I'm not thrilled with having bucks around since they can be pretty aggressive (ok really more like physically curious) and very stinky. But it was hard for me to see this guy go--a sentimental thing, I suppose. He gave incredibly beautiful kids though he was pretty ugly himself. :-) He was over 9 years old which is a pretty good old age for goats. He was ornery but I miss his presence and hate the thought that there will be no more Zen babies. Sigh.

We've had so much trouble with parasites this past year. The vet says that the moist weather we had was a real problem. We also had a couple of the goats come up missing--presumed dead. In all we've lost 6 goats in 2008. It's really hard for me to lose animals. Sigh. We didn't breed any of them this year since this has been such a hard year. I will miss the excitement of kidding season but we're hoping for a better year in 2009.

I am so sorry about Zen. We have our mini horses but would love a couple dwarf goats. I am sorry you have had a rough year with your goats. Praying 2009 is much better.

Enjoyed talking to Scott too and I am praying for him.

As for raw diet... I have played with it also. I started back on First Place in Sept. (haven't mentioned this on my blog) and as of now I have lost almost 30 lbs. But I feel so much better. I am walking almost 2 miles a day. Except for Sunday. Eating fruit and yogurt, pb w/ light wheat toast, and lots of salad w/ low fat ranch ;) I still have a way to go but God will give me the strength.

Praying for you. When will Steve be home?

oh and as for having everything together.. think again. NO WAY! We fussed on the way to the parade, the kids were very rowdy last night decorating the tree.... so never think I have it together b/c lots of times it is total chaos.

:) love ya~
