Foraging For Pecans

Yesterday we were able to visit the Cuivre Island Conservation Area again to gather some pecans.

Daughter #2 picking up pecans while Son #4 has a "stick duel" with imaginary villans.
The stick that he had "whizzing" through the air is behind him.

The parking area with the smaller pecan trees.
Sadly, there's a lot of graffiti that has been covered over on the rocks.
Why do people have to destroy?

Son #4 just sitting around.

"The force is strong with this one."
(The branch is hanging by fishing line.)

The Jedi Warrior from another angle.

Checking out the riverbank.

Really cool "crooked" tree.
Reminds me of being pregnant.  ;-)

Lookin up!!
Cool bark.

Daughter #2 and I managed to gather up almost 4 lbs of pecans (3 lbs 11 oz so saith the scale).  Son #4 wasn't a lot of help (his 10 or so he picked is in that basket somewhere)--but he's so charming that we overlooked his lack of enthusiasm.  ;-)

The persimmons weren't quite ready yet.
I had to park in someone's driveway while the kids hopped out to grab a few.
The ripe ones were pretty good.
We'll have to make another trip before the wildlife eats them all up.
We saw some "scat" (polite for animal poop) with persimmon seeds in it.
I was going to take a picture but the kids said that was going just a bit too far for their vanity!!
